If you have dry skin

Use hypoallergenic products containing petroleum jelly, urea, glycerin and lactic acid. They act as emollients and humectants. Wash and moisturize your skin daily and avoid drying agents such as pool-water chlorine.
1. Dermalogica PreCleanse, $48 (150 mL).
2. Vichy Laboratories NormaDerm Gentle Cleansing Gel Cream for Clear Skin, $19 (200 mL).

If you have oily skin

Look for oil-free, non-comedogenic products. In general, glycolic acid, salicylic acid and retinol-based cleansers, toners and masks are useful for acne-prone skin. And make sure to thoroughly remove makeup at the end of the day.
3. Garnier Nutritionist Purifying Gel Cleanser, $10 (150 mL).
4. Bioré Pore Perfect Self-Heating Mask, $13 (8 single-use packages).

If you have sensitive skin

Use hypoallergenic and irritant-free products. Watch out for sunblocks with pure titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. Test a pea-sized amount of any new product on the elbow crease and wait a week for any reaction.
5. Dermaglow Sensitive Rx Gentle Foaming Cleanser, $45 (150 mL).

If you have eczema

Eczema can be treated like dry skin. For problems such as rosacea, consult a dermatologist for anti-redness products, and laser or intense pulsed-light treatments. It’s also a good idea to use boring old hypoallergenic skin products.
6. Av&egravene Clean-Ac Derma-Cleanser Adjunctive care to anti-acne treatments, $25 (200 mL).

If you have mature skin

Do your homework and consult a dermatologist on old and emerging cosmeceuticals, such as glycolic acid or anti-oxidants like thujaplicin. Be religious in your use of moisturizers, drink lots of water and use sunscreen.
7. Olay Definity Illuminating Cream Cleanser, $15 (150 mL).
8. Shiseido Bio-Performance Super Exfoliating Discs, $78 (8 discs).
